Your Child's First Visit

Your child is special, and we promise to treat them that way. Our team is experienced with children of all ages and all levels of dental health. We always treat your little one the way we would treat our own children – with exceptional care and compassion.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child has their first visit by their first birthday. By the time they have several teeth, we can begin to monitor their dental health and help them become accustomed to the dental office, making it fun and easy for them to receive the continued care they will need to thrive and have a happy, healthy smile for a lifetime!

Your Child’s First Visit

At your child's first visit, we will help them become familiar with our team as well as the sights and sounds of the dental office. Because everything will be new to them, regular visits will cultivate a positive experience and eliminate the fear from dentistry for your child.

We will perform an exam and make sure that their first teeth are healthy and progressing normally. We will always move at your child’s pace and help them feel confident so that they learn to think of their dental appointments as a positive experience.

You are welcome to accompany your child on their first appointment in our office. If your child is doing well, we recommend that they be accompanied by one of our staff for subsequent visits. Studies show that children adjust to dental visits more positively when they experience their dental visits on their own.

We will make your child’s first visit fun and interactive. Taking them for a ride in the chair, allowing them to be curious, and providing entertainment such as TVs, iPads, and toys will make their appointments something they look forward to.

As Your Child Grows

Kids grow quickly. That is why regular dental appointments are so important. We will check to make sure that their teeth are erupting as expected and that they are healthy. We will also be on the lookout for common conditions such as decay, gum disease, and a misaligned bite.

When your child is old enough, we will incorporate a professional dental cleaning and x-rays to ensure a clean, bright, healthy smile.

We also offer additional preventive treatments such as fluoride and sealants, if necessary. Every child is different, and we will make the recommendations that will meet the needs of your child. We maintain a focus on prevention and treat decay quickly, before it has a chance to worsen and potentially cause pain or even tooth loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many parents have anxiety about dentistry and that can carry over to their children. The truth is that dentistry today has advanced significantly and is friendlier, more comfortable, and less invasive than ever. With the right preventive care, you can help keep your child free from complex treatment from preventable conditions.

That is why it is important to properly prepare your child for their dental visit so that it can be stress-free and productive.

Avoid scary language – Avoid sharing your anxiety with your child. Don’t use scary words such as “needle,” "shot," "drill," and “hurt.” Instead, create a positive tone when it comes to their dental appointment and let them know that everything will be ok. Our team is extremely gentle and compassionate. We are certain your child will enjoy their time with us.

Use positive language – Tell them that the dentist and his team are there to help! Let them know that we will explain procedures and answer any questions. Use gentle terms such as “brush” and “count” when it comes to their teeth.

Tell them about their appointment – Using positive language, tell them about their dental appointment. Help get them excited about all the fun things we have in store for them at our office. We have iPads, a play area, games, toys, and a television at each treatment chair to help them stay entertained and relaxed during treatment.

We know your child’s first dental visit might be more stressful for you than your child! We are here to help explain procedures and put your mind at ease by providing your little ones with the very best dental care possible. We always make appointments fun and enjoyable for our patients.
